The week prior to Thanksgiving we began our unit on the history of the first Thanksgiving. We learned about the Pilgrims (Puritans) leaving England and coming to a new land on a ship called the Mayflower. We read some about their journey and how the Wampanoag tribe helped them learn to survive in their new home. The students did a wonderful job assembling sentences and illustrating their own book on the first Thanksgiving during guided reading. The students also wrote a journal entry on something that they were thankful for and why. I met with students individually to discuss their entries and edit. Students then traced a likeness of a Pilgrim hat and wrote their final draft of what they were thankful for on the hat. We displayed them on a bulletin board in the hallway. The kiddos did such a wonderful job on this project!

November has flown by! Below, I added some pictures of the students voting for their favorite food on Election Day. A special thanks to Mrs. Vernon and Mrs. Riddle for setting up the voting booth. Donuts won by a landslide! We enjoyed donuts the following week to celebrate the victory!
After several unsuccessful attempts to post updates from the classroom it looks like I have finally gotten the kinks worked out. Throughout the week,I will be adding several pictures of student work as well as some information about what has been going on in the classroom lately. Thanks for being so patient and understanding.
