Here are some photos from the last few weeks that have been sent to me. Please continue to share photos with me of activities the kiddos are doing. I can't believe that next week is the last week of school. What a crazy end to the year! I miss being able to see my class and hope to be able to see them around this summer or in the fall when things are safe.

Good Afternoon Everyone!!
I hope everyone received the lesson activities for this week. We have tried to make these activities "hands-on" as much as possible. There are videos and websites included for enrichment. I have put a list of sight words for the entire year under the sight word tab (located under the more tab) here on the website. This one is from Mrs. Blazo: https://youtu.be/JzgJ4M4AP-w If you need more books to read or listen to for your child, they can use Tumblebooks.com. The username is: Tonganoxie and the password is: Books. Thank you for all you are doing for your child!!! Tell them I MISS THEM VERY MUCH!! Also, please email me pictures of your child doing some of the activities and I will post them to the class webpage for them to see. If you have subscribed to the webpage you will receive an email. If you have not, you can go to: http://tesmsmith1.weebly.com/ to see them. Hey First Graders!
I hope you are all enjoying your time at home and continuing to learn lots! I am so sad that our time together had to come to an end earlier than expected, but I am so grateful for the time that I had with you all. Thank you so much for letting me come to your classroom and work with you. I had such an amazing time getting to be in your classroom and loved getting to know each one of you. I cannot wait to hear how you are doing throughout the rest of the year. I am continuing to stay in touch with Mrs. Smith and am happy to help as much as I can. If you ever want to send me a letter to let me know how you are doing, I would love that! My address is 616 Ivy Hall Place, Grand Island, NE 68801. I would love to hear how school is going for you at home and anything else you would like to share. I miss you all so much and could not have asked for a better class to have my student teaching experience with. You are all so bright and loving and have taught me so much! Keep up the hard work! Thank you again, Miss Anania It’s raining, it’s pouring, your day feels really boring—and you're racking your brain for what to do on a rainy day.

The Skittle Experiment This skittles experiment is so simple and it goes fast, so don’t turn your back on it! Great for kids to set up and do themselves too.All you need are three things:
STEP 1 : You want to empty out your skittles and check out the colors. STEP 2: Next, lay out your plates in an area where they won’t be disturbed. STEP 3: Now’s the fun part, make patterns! It’s up to you on how you want to place your colors. Make a rainbow or any sort of pattern that interests you. You can experiment with placing different colors next to each other. STEP 4: Once you have your patterns placed, gently begin pouring water in the middle of the plate until it reaches all the candies and just barely covers them. Wait and watch to see what happens! Give your kids a chance to ask questions, make observations, and explore. Why not test the 5 senses and encourage them to look, listen, feel, taste, and maybe hear what’s happening. Ask open-ended questions to get kids thinking! What changes could they make to this experiment?

I am missing my fabulous first graders today! I hope everyone had a wonderful Spring Break. The first grade team and I are putting together some resources that I will be sending out via skyward and also posting on here for at home learning while school is not in session. These activities are optional. Reading-- Read! Read to your child and have them read to you. Talk about what you read. The aim is for 20 minutes of reading. Practice sight words-- Review 1st, 2nd, and 3rd quarter sight words. Practice the following sight words for 4th quarter : an, by, funny, has, just, book, any, give, going, said, let, know Online Resources: Teach your monster to read https://www.teachyourmonstertoread.com/u/3634938 TumbleBookshttps://www.tumblebooklibrary.com/ Username: Tonganoxie Password: Books Talk about calendar: Review the days of the week and months of the year. What day is it? What will tomorrow be? What was yesterday? How many days are in a week? How many months are in a year? What year is it? https://www.abcya.com/games/days_of_the_week https://www.abcya.com/games/months_of_the_year Writing -- The kids write daily in their journal at school. We do a lot of free writing and they love to write letters to their family and peers. Please encourage them write to whoever they want or write and illustrate their own story. At the bottom of this post, is a list of writing prompts if the kids need them. Science: Look at plants you have at home. Talk about the parts of the plant; the seeds, the roots, the stem, the leaves, and the flower and fruit. Talk about how the nutrients travel from the roots up through the stem and into the leaves. If you have a flower like a carnation or a rose, put it in water with food coloring and let your child predict what will happen in the next few days. Help your child draw a picture of the parts of a plant, including seed, roots, stem, leaves, and flower. *Mystery Science is offering free lessons for remote learning for those who have access to computers. See https://mysteryscience.com/school-closure-planning No passwords or sign-up needed. You can watch videos and do any of the first grade activities mentioned. Math: When we return to school we will be working on non- standard measurement. Kiddos can practice this at home by walking heel to toe to various places in the house and recording the distance. Measuring various items with cereal, Legos, or pennies. Comparing items around the house and discussing which are longer and shorter. Putting items in order from shortest to longest. Math Review: Work on addition and subtraction through 20. Addition and subtraction of 2 digit numbers without regrouping. EX; 25+23= Math Games--https://www.abcya.com/grades/1/numbers Art activities: One activity the kids love to do during indoor recess is to draw.
