Today we completed our unit on fractions with a fun project. We made fraction caterpillars or fractionpillars. The kiddos had such a great time creating their caterpillar using pom poms. They were just too excited and couldn't wait to take them home. I'm having some difficulty getting the pictures to upload here but we had lots of giggles putting them together.

Positive Behavior Reward Party !!!
Our class earned another 20 marbles for positive behavior! This makes our total this year 100! To celebrate this we will be having a pajama day. Your student can bring their favorite stuffed animal to school that day as well. Please be sure that all pajamas are school and weather appropriate. Students may bring slippers to wear in the classroom but please be sure to send tennis shoes for PE and recess. We will have this celebration Monday, April 24, 2017. Sincerely, Mrs. Smith This week ,we have been working on our next writing assignment. Since the weather has been so beautiful this week, we completed our I Spy Spring writing assignment. The kids began by creating a list of things that they smell, see, and hear in Spring. Each kiddo then decided on one thing from each category and developed their sentences. I met with the kids and we edited their sentences together before they wrote their final draft. To go along with out writing piece, we made adorable pop art bunnies. They are so cute! They kids really did a wonderful job on their writing and bunnies. Both assignments are displayed on a bulletin board outside the classroom and the class has received many positive compliments on their work.
Our class books are finally here! The kids were so excited to receive their class books this week. Each student that ordered a book had theirs sent home with them. I hope that you enjoy reading these with your kiddos. They really are such a wonderful keepsake. If you did not order a book but would like to, I have order forms to send home with your student. Please send me an email ASAP and I will send the form home.
We had a wonderful week back after Spring break. I was excited to hear about all the fun the kids had on break. We got back in the routine of guided reading this week and I was pleased to hear that a lot of kiddos found the time to read over the break. In math, we began our new math chapter on 2D shapes and fractions. We focused on the attributes of squares, triangles, trapezoids, rectangles, and circles. Each student completed a rough draft of an opinion piece we are working on about the best thing to do at recess. We also continued to work on living and nonliving things this week. On Thursday, we got a special surprised! Mrs. Harriman stopped in to visit us and spent time catching up with the kids and stayed to read a few books.
