This week we will continue our guided reading groups in the morning. Students will come home with new books to read and familiar reads this week. We will continue to work on implementing strategies to figure out unknown words and comprehension of the books we are reading. Please be sure that your child reads each night. The goal is for them to read at least 20 minutes every single night. Remember part of this time can be you reading to them. It is so important that they hear good fluent reading often.
Phonics-- This week we will be reviewing common and proper nouns. I will also be introducing possessive nouns and we will be working on r-controlled vowels (ar, er, ir, or, ur). Math-- Math is all about time this week. We will be learning to tell time to the hour and half hour on analog and digital clocks. Students will also be practicing writing the time to the hour and half hour digitally and in words ( o' clock, and half past). Science-- Since it is fourth quarter, we will be working on our final science unit over plants and animals. The kids were so excited today when we talked about the upcoming experiments and projects that come with this unit! We began the unit today with classifying various objects into living and non-living categories. We will continue to learn about plant needs and animal needs this week as well as comparing living and non-living things. Spelling-- The spelling list came home with your student today. The words for the week are: think, other, also, came, another, kite, fine, ride, time, hike. The challenge words are Spring and April. We will be practicing the words in class this week but be sure to find time to practice at home too. It is also great practice to put the spelling words into simple sentences and have the students practice them this way. Doing so is great practice for the two dictation sentences that we have along with every spelling test. This will also help them remember what a good sentence needs (begins with a capital letter, spacing between words, an end mark, and correct spelling)
