Today, we began guided reading groups! That means I am working with small groups on reading skills while the rest of the class is working through their Daily 5 rotations. So far, we have been doing a great job of working independently, and being responsible for our own learning while I am busy with a small group. Your child will be bringing home a reading bag each night with a story they can read to you. Please be sure that they read the book nightly and remember to talk with your child about their book.

We have been working hard on Read to Self! Read to Self is one component of the Daily 5. Read to Someone, Listening to Reading, Word Work, and Work on Writing are the other 4 components. During Guided Reading, I will be working with students in a small group to teach reading lessons. While I am teaching reading lessons, the rest of the class is working on a Daily 5 activity. Here are some pictures of our class working on Read to Self! We are working hard to build our stamina! We were able to read for 12 minutes today! Soon, we hope to reach our goal of 20 minutes.
Our music teacher, Mrs. Jones, would love for you to check out her Weebly page for current learning activities and future events. www.tesjonesmusic.weebly.com
This past week, we completed all of our beginning of the year testing. We use Aimsweb to test math skills and Reading Recovery's Observation Survey to test reading skills. Students are tested individually, and it takes an hour or more to test each student. For that reason, I had a substitute last week. I will be sending home the results of the reading testing Monday, September 14, 2015. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
